I knew it!
Yikes moving glove! (I seem to be doing a lot of shrieking for this episode.)
"Is it still necrophilia if I'm conscious?" HA!
Oh, Rusty. I do so love your religious issues.
Owen talking about realizing "that was it" reminded me of a bit I always liked from the very beginning of The Green Mile. It talks about that moment a prisoner about to be executed understands what's going to happen, that once they sit down in that chair and their legs are strapped in they realize that their feet are done; there'll be no more walking, no more dancing. If we're doing it right we live our lives as if the glass is already broken, but the truth is that for most of us that ideal is pretty hard to live up to. I try to make sure the people I care about know that I care about them, but beyond that I don't do so well.
"We dated for a while. He was really immature." *snerk*
Huh. I"ve never noticed the 'Made In Wales' plaque on the door before.
Martha?! You hurt Martha? Stop doing this to me!
OK, Owen's conversation with the boy Jamie caught me off guard. *sniffle*
Please. STOP DOING THIS TO ME.

Oh, I forgot - can someone please explain to me what exactly Ianto's blunt weapon of choice was?
Bless [livejournal.com profile] matsujo9 - it's a field hockey stick.

It looked like some sort of cane. At first I thought it was a piece of tube, but when they moved the shot up, I could see the end was made of wood. No clue as to what it was, though.

And I just can't seem to care about zombie boy, although when the glove started moving on its own, I went, "Ha! Evil Dead 2, eat your heart out!"

Hee, yes, where's a copy of Farewell to Arms when you need it?

Sorry? What's Hemingway got to do with this? Missing the reference here...

Sorry, overly geekish for a moment there. In Evil Dead 2, maybe you remember, after Ash cuts off his hand at one point he overturns a bucket over it. To weigh the bucket down he puts a pile of books on it and the top book is A Farewell to Arms.

You've watched Evil Dead 2 awfully closely...

*laughs* Quite possibly. It's one of my favorite jokes in the movie.

[livejournal.com profile] matsujo9 has given us the answer - Ianto was wielding a field hockey stick!

Of course that still begs the question of "Why?"

That little nonverbal exchange between Jack and Ianto when he first comes back with the weapon - "WTF?" "STFU." - I've re-watched that several times and it's still making me genuinely laugh out loud.

The best stuff sometimes is non-verbal. It's amazing how Gareth has managed to be snarky without saying a word... *points to icon*

Ianto's weapon was a hockey stick.

Why he had a hockey stick on hand I'm not sure, but it brought to mind Jack's comment in "Sleeper" that he keeps his sports equipment under his bed.

OK, I really need to hunt up that comment now.

Well, here you are, from the transcript of "Sleeper" at http://www.kilohoku.com/transcripts/tw/tw-2X02.html:

~ ~ ~

OFFICER: In my opinion, the husband did it. He was looking for trouble, expecting to be burgled.

(Toshiko watches them, amused.)

JACK: Really?

(Jack tries again to get the officer to leave.)

OFFICER: Yeah, look. No other reason I can think of for keeping sports equipment in the bedroom.

(He indicates the bloodied cricket bat on the floor.)

JACK: Oh, you should come round to my house for a game of hockey sometime.

(Jack manages to get the officer out of the room. He closes the door on him.)

TOSHIKO: Making friends?

JACK: Not really.

~ ~ ~

So I misquoted, actually, but the exchange is really cute.

Even better, it actually mentions hockey!

Yeah, hockey. Seems more meaningful, now we've seen Ianto with his hockey stick. I love it when Jack has these quirky personal exchanges!
