OK, I really don't watch the new Knight Rider, but I passed by there briefly last night and hello Captain Jack Harkness reference! Sometimes I wonder how many people out there in the "real world" watch Torchwood and this kind of thing gives me hope. Of course it's also another sign that there are more geeks than we might know writing television.

I was flipping channels and saw his outfit and my brain went "OOH, he's Capt Jack!" but then sanity tried to push its way forth and deride that train. It really was supposed to be him dressing as Jack? :) Cool!

I'm really not sure of the context, but one of the other characters said, "Captain Jack Harkness? Are you trying to tell us something?" Then I flipped past later and noticed it wasn't just the coat but there were suspenders as well - I swear he could have been cosplaying.

YAY for Torchwood making it to primetime tv here. Okay, sucky primetime, but still!

Bwah! Awesome. (And dude, the Knight Rider... lab or whatever it is is kind of Hub-ish! Imitation, flattery and all that.)

I've watched snippets here and there of the new Night Rider- the guy who dressed up as Jack is the geeky friend-tech support guy who always fails to impress the girl. The show's on a lot, 3x a week or something but unfortunately not very good except for the unintentional humor factor.... but yay for the Jack reference! (I do wonder, however, how many people were *Bwah* what? about it)

I would guess probably... most? It's times like that when you know there are unrepentant geeks writing the show. They have to know it's a joke that won't have full potency for most of the audience, but they did it anyway.

On The Office (U.S.) the oddball sycophant character Dwight is a sci fi/fantasy geek, and occasionally they make Battlestar Galactica, Smallville, and other sci fi references, but even those probably aren't as obscure as Torchwood.

definite kudos to the writers for going with it, despite it not being an NBC show (although NBC does own scifi channel so DW in a vague way qualifies) and hurray if it gets people to think about/look up/get interested in TW. I know a shocking number of people who have never even *heard* of Doctor Who, let alone Torchwood so any extra press is a good thing.

I've never seen the Office (either version) but that character sounds great!

Eee, Captain Jack reference! That is too cool. And yeah, such geek writers, gotta love that.
