I was going to start the Life spamming by pointing out this vid that really doesn't suck, "Patterns" by lithiumdoll:

but then I watched another vid by lithiumdoll, a multifandom happyextravaganza using The Blues Brothers' "Everybody Needs Somebody (To Love)". I can not begin to describe the amount of happy contained in this vid.

Oh, wow, the Simon & Garfunkle was a great music choice for that first vid. I've liked that song for years anyway and I've never seen it in a fanvid.

Question about Life - from the one episode I saw, I remember him interacting well with a kid, and I remember the baby pineapple. From that vid the show looks really dark - am I going to be able to handle it without a lot of emotional fortitude? I mean, is it going to make me want to stare at the ceiling for hours afterward? Or is there enough humor to balance?

Of course, I could just watch that second vid after every episode! OMG!

Oh dear, I might not be the best person to ask, as I have a pretty high threshold for dark. I really don't think it's that dark. The vid emphasizes the darker elements of the show, but it's not a comprehensive representation. It can be quite sad, but the positives really do balance it out.

It's not dark like an FX network show, does that work?

I usually have a high threshold for dark, too, and a lot of times I prefer it - well, I'm more satisfied with a show that has dark elements than one that doesn't. I guess it kind of depends on a combination of how tender I am at the moment and how invested I am in the characters. Right now I'm *still* jittery over the SGA from two weeks ago. ::headdesk::

Heh. Okay, I hear you. *g*

I do hope you and [livejournal.com profile] phoenix64 don't mind me jumping in. But as opposed to other cop dramas, it does have a lot of balances and humor. Life is, more than the on going conspiracy, really about a story of second chances and redemption. Somehow, they manage to end episodes with a hopeful tone, that despite everything there's still something to look forward to.

The partnership dynamic also is fabulous, two people damaged by what they've been through yet struggling to go on and not be defined by their past. The creator of the show also made a specific directive about Life's cinematography. Opposed to other cop shows which are all about the dark filters, Life is filled with light, lots and lots of light. So, there are moments that would break your heart but at the end they always leave you feeling a little better.

Hee, jump on in, the water's fine and the more the merrier. I expect I will be spamming more about Life soon and your thoughts are always welcome.

Sadly I've ALSO recently realized I'm going to be in Toronto when s2 premieres. *sniff* I'll figure out a way to watch it later, but it's not the same.

Also, yes, about the amount of light in Life, definitely something I want to stick a pin in to talk about later after my DVD watching is over.

The lighting in this show is really fabulous, I love that Rand was so adamant that this not be one of those gritty LA noirs. since it isn't about darkness but redemption.

How did you know that was the best way to sweet talk me? :) I'm a huge sucker for attention to light and color.
