Meme snatched from [livejournal.com profile] honorh:

You are in a mall when the zombies attack. You have:

1. one weapon.
2. one song blasting on the speakers.
3. one famous person to fight alongside you.

Weapon can be real or fictional, you may assume endless ammo if applicable. Person can be real or fictional.

1. Your standard pump action 12-gauge. I'm an old-fashioned girl when it comes to my weapons, particularly because I want something I have half a chance of being able to deal with if something goes wrong (yes, I do kind of do guns). Plus, the less fancy it is the less chance there is of something going wrong in the first place.

2. AC/DC "Highway to Hell". I can't help it, it's what popped into my head and it won't let me dismiss it.

3. Ellen Ripley. Simply the best. Plus there's no reason she can't bring along her pulse rifle.

It almost feels like a waste to only come up with one set of answers for this one.

The pump action 12-gauge is a classic, and it could blow off a zombie's head (important!) at close range. The only thing I'd worry about is reloading if you were faced with a whole shuffling horde at once. I'm trying to think of weapons that would not need reloading, could deal with an entire crowd, and wouldn't have to be used only at close range, and I'm not coming up with much!

Yes, this is a v. srs topic. And not just an excuse to use my favorite Bones icon. *g*

Remembering that line still gives me a giggle.

One could always go with energy or magical weapons if you want to avoid the pesky complication of reloading. Of course you could also interpret "endless ammo" as the Gun Clip of Holding (OK, I just made myself snort laughter)(especially because I'd bet that somewhere out there is an RPG group that has tried to get one out of their GM). But I figure if the ammo isn't too hard to get to, as long as you have a partner to switch off with, reloading shouldn't be too much of a problem.

Have you read Max Brooks' Zombie Survival Guide?

I haven't read it! On Halloween for the past couple of years at least, Neal Conan on NPR has interviewed Max Brooks and they discuss past and future zombie invasions in a factual way. It's wonderful, and I've been meaning to check out the book. :)

Also, his World War Z is in fact a surprisingly good novel - and I say that as someone with a fair amount of respect for the horror genre. The Zombie Survival Guide is just funny, but WWZ is actually pretty impressive. I'm pretty sure Brooks has mentioned that Studs Terkel was an inspiration, and I'd think it quite fair to call it Working meets Night of the Living Dead.

(Dang it, I could swear I'd written up a review of it somewhere, but I can't find it now.)
