I just found out there's a movie adaptation of In the Electric Mist with Confederate Dead coming out with Tommy Lee Jones playing Dave Robicheaux and Peter Sarsgsard playing one of my favorite of James Lee Burke's screwed-up characters and just a metric buttload of good actors.

I like James Lee Burke's books quite a bit, largely because his characters are incredible; he especially does such a good job of portraying the kind of people who are damaged and often people you don't want to let too deeply into your own life but they aren't sum total bad people. He doesn't make it easy. And Electric Mist is such an excellent example of his work.

I'm not that familiar with the French director Bertand Tavernier, though I know his adaptation of Jim Thompson's Pop. 1280 is thought to be excellent (I haven't seen it yet, but I am a Thompson fan), and he seems to get high marks for most of his films. So overall I'm pretty optimistic.

Whee! Spam! I like spam! ... Unfortunately, I don't know a thing about movis and have never heard of anyone you're talking about... *tilts head*

No, really. I fail at movies.

I have to confess that I was really taken aback at the idea that you hadn't even heard of the movie version of A Few Good Men (sorry, but it's just really well known - Tony would fall over at the idea), but that's OK, you're just ... different. :)

I would heartily recommend the book if those kinds of character portrayals interest you at all. There's a lot of sadness to be found there, but a lot of love as well.

No need to apologise for that :D I get that a lot from just about everyone - "What, you don't know that movie? That's impossible!" - but it just so happens that I fail at movies. It's not helping that I live in a country where it's almost impossible to watch an un-dubbed movie or tv show - and a country that makes it impossible for me to download the stuff in the original language. I hate dubbing with a passion.

... And I rarely want to watch things badly enough to go through the trouble of buying it on dvd. So, yeah. I fail at movies.

It certainly sounds interesting. I think I like messed up people :D

And I know, Tony would be appalled at my lack of movie knowledge. But that's okay. He could teach me. And besides, we're alike in a lot of other aspects, so I'm thinking me failing at movies isn't all that terrible *beams*
