Nattering about The Doctor and Doctor Bell

One of the ways in which I am an odd duck is that I tend to prefer "alternative" Sherlock Holmes adaptations such as Murder by Decree and Rupert Everett's
Sherlock Holmes and the Case of the Silk Stocking to most "straight" adaptations such as Jeremy Brett's run. I just finished watching the Murder Room DVD's about Arthur Conan Doyle and Joseph Bell and I thought they were great good fun, with a lot of characters that weren't just one thing. There was one in particular who was compassionate and capable of great love and petty and capable of being fairly nasty, and none of it was an act, it was all part of who they really were.

And then I couldn't get the idea out of my head of Ten visiting them, and both fanboying them and giving them massive headaches. I'm quite sure he'd drive Bell maaad.

I can't believe there are only two episodes of season three left. I know they are going to be excellent episodes, but I shall be quite sad after they are done.

ETA: OMG there are books! David Pirie, the man who wrote the screenplay for the original story arc and the first "sequel" story - those seem to be based on books he wrote, and there's a THIRD book that wasn't adapted! *happyhappyhappyhappyhappyjoyhappyhappy* *looks at pile of unread books* Yeah, like that's ever stopped me!

::checks Netflix:: Oh, that sounds really interesting. Erg. There's already tons of stuff in my queue, but I think I'm going to have to throw that in there. Love the idea of Ten driving them to distraction. :)

I should probably make sure to specify that while the original eps where Doyle (played by Robin Laing) is in medical school were nice enough, but it was the additonal episodes with Doyle as a young doctor (played by Charles Edwards) that really poked my inner fangirl. Not the least because angst like whoah.

And I should really specify that they can be kind of a bitch to find on Netflix due to title weirdness. Your easiest bet is to do a search for Ian Richardson's movies.

Yep, those are the discs I just finished watching! Poor Charles Edwards gets no respect - he's in the description but not the cast list.

And OMG OMG I found BOOKS! And there's a book that wasn't adapted so THERE'S STILL A STORY OUT THERE!
