Dogsled trails not taken

I'm a little hesitant about posting this, because I know there are two people likely to read this who are currently watching due South but haven't made it through to the end, and I really don't want them to read this before they've seen the finale.

Please, if I'm talking about you, resist temptation!

Thanks to the niftyness of [livejournal.com profile] wonkyinagoodway and [livejournal.com profile] lipstickcat and Tom Melissis we get to see a few pages of a draft script of "Call of the Wild" that are quite different from what was filmed. I think they are in fact quite interesting. *pets the Rays*

I also can't help but wonder if this is what Paul Gross wrote before he ate the mushrooms that must be responsible for the ending we got. Not that I don't have love for "Call of the Wild", but. Groovy, baby.

Me! Me! That'd be me! *bounces, waves*

However, I've read so much fic that I think I'm spoiled for pretty much all the important ending stuff.* "Post-COTW" is a huge genre in dS fic. So I went over to see what all the fuss is about. I'm all squeeful about the V/K undertones, and the lack of Stella/Vecchio, but the rest of it...I dunno. RayK seems pretty depressed, and the idea of Fraser all on his own and happy...well, then, what was the whole point of the series?

*I ignore the ending stuff as I see fit. Someone said that they personally thought it was a campfire tale that Fraser made up to amuse RayK once when they got snowed in somewhere. I can go with that. :D

It's virtually impossible to be a fan online and not get spoiled, isn't it? We resist, but it's going to happen. I still hope that even though you know most if not all of the 'what' that the 'how' is still going to surprise you at least a little.

It certainly does seem a little down. As I sort of said in my comment over there, I think the thing to remember is that is was a draft, and even if they had gone in that general direction I think other changes would have been made.

And the campfire tale idea? Totally works.
