My invisible weekend

So I spent my weekend watching season 1 of The Invisible Man in its entirety and I feel, mmm, sated. So much goodness, sweet and sad and silly, from the ultimate tragedy of Simon Cole to "Die, cuckoo clock, die!"

Of course this means I still haven't watched the last episode of Ashes to Ashes (bad fan, no cookie) or caught up with Torchwood, which I really need to do in the next couple of days. Also, the last disc of the I-Man set was badly scratched and skipping so I actually have to package it up today and send it back to Amazon for a replacement.

Still, a very good time was had the past couple of days. ;)

Invisible Man? I read a book with that title once, but I don't think the show has anything in common with that? What's it about? *bounces*

You know, they are actually good enough to mention H.G. Wells and his novel in the credits as the inspiration, but no, there's really not any connection with that. There's really no connection with the Ralph Ellison book if that's what you're thinking of.

This was a series on the Sci-Fi channel 2000-2002. Darien Fawkes (see icon) is a thief who's about to go to prison for a a long time when his genius scientist brother offers him the chance to be a government guinea pig in exchange for a pardon. The science project in question turns out to be invisibility, but there are of course problems which mean he ends up having to keep working for the government and there is the constant possibility that he could go insane or someone could kill him trying to get the thing from him that makes the invisibility work. It really was more sci-fi than science fiction but it's not totally dumb and it's FUN. When it's not breaking your heart - the episode I mentioned in the earlier post where he impersonates the little girl's invisible friend absolutely made me cry.

Now that it's out on DVD (in the US - it's been available on DVD in the UK for years) I'm hoping the fandom will perk up. I especially want vids.

I don't remember who wrote the book I read. I don't even remember if I finished it or what the end was like, I just remember the beginning - and that very vaguely. Something with an apartment and not paying rent and stuff. I wasn't sure if the person was actually invisible or some social outcast and the whole invisible thing was just some sort of metaphor *frowns*

Eh. The series sounds pretty interesting. And the icon is pretty. And the boy in the icon is pretty. Maybe when I actually have time. And found a way to bypass German laws. Gah.

The boy in the icon is Vincent Ventresca and he is indeed very pretty. *nods*
