I had to look up Phillip K. Dick. I learned something today! (I thought they were channeling the "Tin Man" and "Double Jeopardy" episodes of SG1, but I see the source material is much older.)
Yes, unfortunately a lot of crap movies have been made from Dick's works - I say you can sum up the plot of all of them as, "No one is who you think they are, not even you, especially you", but there's a lot more thinky stuff in his writing than that.
But I definitely like the idea of SGA challenging the idea of what it means to be human.
I do too! It's a good theme for sci-fi. They started, with those wraith-to-human experiments, but it didn't seem like the Atlantis crew learned a blessed thing back then. I'm hoping that this time, confronted with people who looked and *were* just like them, maybe they'll give it some more soul-searching. It's so sad. The replicator-made versions, knowing how their originals and the other humans would respond, knew their lives would be valued less, so they sacrificed themselves. How easy was it for the "originals" to let that happen? I hope they'll be haunted by it in the future. After they aren't so consumed with grieving for Elizabeth, I guess. ::pets them::
