What kind of a pharmaceutical company offers a discount program that's only available to people who ALREADY HAVE INSURANCE? For a prescription that costs over $400 without insurance.

I know there are people out there who are dealing with things a lot tougher than what I'm dealing with but seriously, fuck this week.

So, I can easily find all the fics I might want that portray Sherlock as gay (or at least gay where John is concerned) and can also easily find fics that portray Sherlock as asexual. I suppose if I really wanted to I could find fics where he is straight, or straight and abstinent (or is that only in Moffat’s mind?).

But that’s not what I’m interested in. What I’m interested in is something that I don’t see talked about where Sherlock is concerned: I’m curious if anyone can recommend fics where there is something fundamentally broken with Sherlock’s sexuality. Not something where everything is made better after meeting the right person or something like that, but something that portrays him as genuinely dysfunctional. Anything?

And now LJ is fine but Tumblr has crashed. Luckily the thing I want to recommend is really on LJ. Rumor Has It is a something of a fix-it fic (is it a fix-it fic if it only portrays a reasonable reality instead of making it better?) & future fic about Santana. People who love Santana should read it and everyone else should read it too just because.

I just have to take a moment to say, for all the crappy decisions DC has made recently (and still are apparently), I have to take a moment to celebrate one thing they've done that makes me incredibly happy:

THEY BROUGHT BACK HELENA WAYNE!!!

I don't think I can properly express how much Helena Wayne's Huntress meant to me as a kid. My favorite comics character had always been Batman because of his lack of super powers and his motivation. The Huntress was the closest thing to a female Batman, not a kid but a woman, not a helper or a wannabe but a fully realized hero who didn't need anyone else. I was 15 when she was written out of existence in Crisis on Infinite Earths. A few years later I was so excited to see DC introducing a new Huntress series, but when I read the first issue and realized they had taken Helena Wayne's look and given it to a completely different character I was crushed. I was never able to take to Helena Bertinelli.

I know Helena Bertinelli has had over twenty years to gain fans who are probably pretty upset right now. I know there's much about this Helena Wayne that may be different than the first one. But for now I'm just really, REALLY happy to see her back.

So with Neal McDonough on Justified Tuesday is now The Night of Neals. I approve.

[personal profile] etcetera_cat mentioned an advertisement for hands-only CPR (with Vinnie Jones!) that's currently running in the UK that makes Moriarty's use of "Staying Alive" even funnier. Watch it here.

I WILL NEVER FORGET THIS AD.

It's taken until well after midnight but my MacBook appears to be completely restored and everything is working. I had to erase the hard drive again, reinstall again from my back-up hard drive, then I had to re-install the system and run all the necessary updates and then it had to re-import my email. But I think I'm OK. *knock on wood*

I have my MacBook back. That's the good news. They forgot to replace the battery so I got to wait for a tech to do that for me at the store since I'd paid for the comprehensive service. Apparently this comprehensive service also meant that they had to reformat my hard drive. Just a reminder: the problem was with my screen. But anyway, if I wasn't exactly warned about this I was asked at least three times if I backed up. I do back up, I use Time Machine which is fairly easy. But apparently doing a COMPLETE restore after they've formatted my hard drive is going to be a little more challenging. I suspect the first problem is that I didn't rename my hard drive again first. All I know now is that I went through the restore and according to the memory left on my laptop the data is all there ... somewhere, but I can't find it. It certainly didn't do an actual mirror restore so my email and the like isn't restored. I have a sickening feeling I may end up doing a lot of this by hand. If I can find where the data is on my computer. I'd like to cry now please.

If you could send me and my computer a good thought I'd really appreciate it.

Happy More Joy Day! Since I'm not much a creator I thought I'd try and add a bit of joy to your day by offering a selection of photos from my "Cute" Photobucket folder.

I hope you enjoyed these moments of cute!

Just a reminder, Thursday is More Joy Day! From [personal profile] sdwolfpup's original post:
In the interest of spreading more joy, I’m proposing that [...] we each engage in one act, either here on or outside of LJ, which brings joy to another person, in the hopes that that person will spread that joy further, and exponentially onward.

Some ideas I had of things we could do:

Write a fic, make an icon, make a vid, or make a fanart for someone. Buy someone paid time or userpics. Leave someone a nice comment. Say something nice about something fannish someone else loves. Say something nice about something fannish you love and encourage squee (and squee on someone else’s post if they make one!). Offer to beta for someone. Offer to donate five dollars to the charity of someone's choice. Send flowers to an online friend in a different city. Buy someone you know online a present. Or a virtual present. Plant a tree or a flower in someone's honor and take a picture of it and post it to your LJ. When somebody cuts you off at work, wish them well and hope they get where they’re going safely. Make somebody a friendship bracelet. Or a construction paper heart. Call someone you love and tell them so. Or anything else you can think of!

Then if you wish go to sdwolfpup's post on MJD tomorrow and share what you did, thus passing on even more joy!

phoenix64: Wilson: You alienate people. House: I've been alienating people since I was three. (house alienate)
In my previous post I included language that indicated I wasn't interested in opposing opinions. This was a mistake that I deeply regret.

I don't learn anything if I don't listen to ideas that are different from mine. I never want to be the kind of person who doesn't.

So I'm re-reading The Hound of the Baskervilles and I noticed that at one point Watson refers to Holmes as his master.

Oh you poor boy, obviously you are suffering from some derivation of Stockholm Syndrome. Just because he treats you like a servant doesn't mean you are one.

I am so mad at Supernatural for everything that's been taken away this season, but I still saw the previews for next week and shrieked with glee.

OMG, Inspector Lynley is on Merlin! The US may have Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon but the UK has Two Degrees of the BBC.
phoenix64: a bookshelf with older books (bookshelf)
Since it's been a while I thought I'd mention that I'm on Goodreads in case anyone else wants to take a look at my plebeian tastes and my mildly disturbing habit of buying far more books than I can read in a practical amount of time.

I don't post a lot of reviews but feel free to ask me about anything I've read. I should probably also mention that I've read a fair amount of stuff that's pretty dark that I wouldn't recommend to everyone. Though of course as I get older that line keeps shifting, "New Weird" good grief.

P.S. It mentions in my profile that I'm a Goodreads Librarian but seriously, don't ask me to fix something, I'm just a baby.
